GLEC 2023 Timetable

March 6 - April 16
Online Application & Payment
Create a GLEC account by signing up for the website.

Preliminary Round
Submit your entry file(s) based on the given Yearly Theme.
April 17 - April 30
Entry File Evaluation
All submissions will be evaluated based on the GLEC Scoring Criteria.
May 1 - May 10
Finalist Announcement
Successful applicants will be announced through an individual email.

Final Round Registration
Confirm your participation to the final round by purchasing the tickets.
May 11 - May 12
ID Slip Print
Prepare the printed ID slip including individual final round information.
May 13 - May 14
Final Round
Compete with other finalists through Zoom live rounds.
June 12
Award Announcement
Selected awardees will receive the award certificate and prize. (See more)

Certificate Printing Service
Printing service for the certificates is available by the end of the year.

Final Round Registration Fee Payment Deadline

All finalists including both general applicants and nominated applicants must complete the payment ($50 per sector) to confirm participation to the final round.

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply if you:

  • are currently enrolled in from Grade 4 to 12
  • are studying as a homschooler

Requirements

  • Application Category: General Applicant or Nominated Applicant

2. Nomination (optional)

Any applicant who submits an official recommendation letter with a signature from a school teacher automatically moves to the final round being considered as a qualified student who have continuously contributed academically and globally.

How to be nominated?

  1. Before signing up for the website, please request your school teacher for a recommendation letter. Download here.
  2. Submit your application for the GLEC competition by signing up for the website here. You will be asked to upload the signed recommendation form when registering.
  3. Confirmation email will be sent within 2~3 working days. If you are fully admitted, your application fee is waived.
  4. If you are a Speech applicant, you must submit your entry files (speech script, voice recording) here.
    If you are an Essay applicant, you are not required to submit any entry files until the final round.

3. Payment

Payment ProcedureOnce you complete your application and/or nomination, access the payment page by clicking here.
Any payments from General Applicants must be received within the preliminary round period (March 6 - April 16).

4. Entry File Submission

General Applicants who did not complete the payment and Nominated Applicants who did not submit the recommendation form cannot access the GLEC submission platform.

For General Applicants

Speech Requirements

  • Full speech script (bullet points are not allowed)
  • Voice Recording (mp3, wav, mp4 only, 3-4 minutes)

Essay Requirements

  • Full essay (less than 700 words)

For Nominated Applicants

Speech Requirements

  • Full speech script (bullet points are not allowed)
  • Voice Recording (mp3, wav, mp4 only, 3-4 minutes)

* Any nominated applicants who do not submit Speech requirements will NOT pass the preliminary round.

* There is no Essay requirement for nominated applicants. Once the application is admitted, the applicant is fully qualified for the final round.

5. Final Round Registration

Finalists will be determined and announced through an individual email. To confirm your participation to the final round, all finalists must complete the final round payment within the final round registration period.

Payment ProcedureOnce the applicant is selected as a finalist, a payment instruction with final round guidelines will be delivered through email.
Any payments from General Applicants must be received within the final round registration period (May 1 - May 10).

6. ID Slip Print

All finalists should bring the ID slip to the final round as an admission ticket provided after the final round registration period.

Individual competition schedules (Date/Time) will be confirmed based on the group of applicants and will be shown on the provided slip with your own Registration No. (do not share this with other applicants) and a Zoom link.

Finalists are encouraged to print the document out rather than to download the online version.

7. Final Round

All finalists must participate in the contest using a computer with a camera and a working microphone (both Speech and Essay), and must verify themselves with the Registration No. written in the ID slip.

Submitted documents or evaluation sheets will not be disclosed according to GLEC Rules and Regulations.

As part of a monitoring and further examination, the entire contest procedure will be recorded. All participants are considered to consent to the video/audio recordings and the use of recordings being used by the GLEC Secretariat. The use of recordings may include: supervision, examination, edit, website post, etc.

8. Award Announcement

Winners from the GLEC 2023 competition will be announced through an individual email, and will receive the award certificate and a prize. Finalists who were not selected as final winners will still receive a certificate of qualification.
