FAQ

As for English, the contestant will take an iBT(Internet Based Test) in a designated computing area.
You will be given a computer to log with your name and the admission number.
Once logged in, you will be given an essay prompt appropriate to your level of studies to write about.

You will be given an hour to complete writing the essay. Please keep in mind that after an hour, the system will automatically save and submit what you’ve written so far.

For the Finals, you will be speaking in front of the GLEC judges. Your speech must be the same with your draft you submitted for the semifinal. Also, you must keep the given performance time.

The testers may ask you some questions in regards to your speech in the language you participate to get tested. When this happens, do not hesitate and answer them accordingly.

Any kinds of electronic gadgets including smart watch are restricted in the testing area. You may use such items in the waiting room not in the testing place.

If your phone vibrates and/or rings during the test, it will be considered as a dishonesty which will result in disqualification and dismissal.

Please bring your printed test identification slip (admission ticket). Please note that you should bring any identification (e.g., passport, student ID, and more) with you.

A. Please arrive at the waiting area 30 minutes prior to your testing time.
The waiting area will be written on your admission ticket.

For elementary: within 3 minutes. 
For middle and high school: within 4minutes.
For college: within 5 minutes.

You will be given the above time to write a speech draft.
Exceeding the given time is not allowed at any circumstances. Please plan your time ahead and utilize the given time well.

The same rule applies to the Finals.

The grading is similar to how it is for the Essay test.
The written speech draft will be initially evaluated using ETS Criterion. Then, the voice recordings will be assessed by GLEC certified professionals.

At the Finals, the applicants’ speech drafts will be examined by the GLEC testers along with professionals as he/she makes the performance.

The speech will be videotaped to enhance grading for the GLEC certified professionals. Each grade (semi-final and final) will be summed up to finally announce/choose the winner of GLEC 2017.

The submitted essays will be screened and evaluated in various steps. The written essays in both the Semifinals and the finals will initially be graded by ETS Criterion. Then, GLEC certified testers, professors, UN professionals will assess the essays.

Yes, there is. Your essay must meet the following requirement: 500 minimum and 700 maximum words.

You will be given an hour to finish your essay at the Final Round.

Please log in to your “My Page” to successfully cancel your registration.

You can find and print your admission ticket from our website on the admissions page.
The admission ticket is only available after once the admission is closed.

Yes. You can.

When applying, you must indicate all the categories you wish to exam (e.g., select/submit both English writing and English speaking tabs from the admission applications page).

Incompletes (i.e., uncompleted application, fail to submit essays and voice recordings) will not be accepted at any circumstances. Uploaded essays/documents are expected to be complete, coherent, and relevant to the subject matter.
Your application must meet the requirements in order to successfully register for the contest by the noon of 05 May 2017.

As for GLEC application, your profile picture is only required. For awarded students, they need to provide a copy of their immigration records to Secretariat.

Please note that if your application information does not match with your official documents, we are not responsible for any disadvantages there may be.

If you copy and paste your essay from MS Word, you may encounter a software error due to different encoding manuals. Therefore, if you intend to use another program rather than writing directly on the application page, it is highly recommendable to use Notepad. If you wrote your essay on MS Word in advance, please copy and paste to Notepad and then to your application page.
