For applicants who apply for Speaking contest, it is required to submit 1. Written draft and 2. Voice record.

The file needs to be in MP3 and/or WMA format.
Tip: Recording your voice using your phone is easier/simpler.

It is required to submit your picture in order to participate in GLEC.
For elementary and middle school students, it is necessary to upload a recent picture, since they grow fast, and with old photo, identification sometimes is difficult for Secretariat. In order to clearly identify the student, please upload your recent photo.

If you cannot upload your picture, please check the size of the image.
Dimensions: 200*250 and 1MB.

To enter the contest, it is required to submit your profile picture.
If you cannot upload your photo, make sure the files you are uploading do not exceed the limits of 1M and 200*250 pixels.

No. The international admission is for those who hold passports from outside of the nation where GLEC will be held or those who lived in an English-speaking countries for more than a year.

No, the criteria of division between “local native participant” and “international participant” is whether the one has lived abroad over than a year (365 days) in recent 3 years.

Although you have overall 5 years of experience living abroad, if you have less than a year (365 days) of it in recent 3 years, you may apply for the local native participant.

I studied abroad for 5 years, but in recent 3 years, I stayed abroad for only 4 months. Am I considered an international applicant?

Yes. You may apply. When submitting your application, select your status as a homeschooler and your level of study as college/university.

* Please note that since you have completed your high school degree, you are considered as a college student.

There are Speaking (the Oral Proficiency test) and Writing (the Essay test).
For the local native applicants, students may apply for both speaking and writing.
For the international applicants, application is limited to the Essay test only.

For those who register for both fields, please note that he/she may be awarded in both areas depending on one’s competency.

For the Preliminary Round, it is 20 dollars (USD).
For the Final Round, it is 30 dollars (USD).

If you are applying for both testing criteria, it is required to pay the fees for each area (i.e., Essays, Oral Proficiency test)

Students between the ages of 11 to 24 (that is elementary 4th to college) can apply. Plus, homeschoolers and students preparing for college examinations/admissions can apply for GLEC.
